GHOST TOWN VILLAGE
Maggie Valley, NC
Formerly: Ghost Town in the Sky
Park News - (5/15/18) Would you believe that there is yet another plan to try and bring Ghost Town in the Sky back to life again? According to the local news a new company was formed called Ghost Town Adventures with the intent to reopen the Ghost Town Village area in time for Spring 2019.
The new CEO of Ghost Town Adventures is said to have been negotiating the purchase of the site from the previous owner, Alaska Presley, who is actually said to be joining up with the new team to help revive the park again.
(8/15/17) According to a few posts on various Maggie Valley Facebook pages, it seems that a discussion about a new owner possibly purchasing Ghost Town in the Sky took place in the past day or so. There are some more wild reports claiming that the park has already been sold, but apparently this is not the case yet... but an interested new owner who claims to have an investor behind him to finance the project apparently is interesting it purchasing the park, which is good news just by itself. Hopefully we'll hear more details in the near future on this as it develops.
(8/5/17) Here we go again... according to this report Ghost Town in the Sky is now officially up for sale... again. Not a big surprise as the park failed to open at all in 2016 and nothing at all has changed for 2017. Sorry folks... but I think it's a goner for good this time. Too many failed efforts to revive it along with infrastructure problems that prevent making it easy for guests to even get to the main park at the top of the mountain any longer just make it unattractive to potential buyers. Though the mountainside location would be a beautiful place to build a few massive Alpine Coasters however...
Unless something changes, this is likely going to be our final report on this closed park.
(6/17/16) The local news has posted a story confirming what we have already posted earlier this month… that Ghost Town Village (formerly Ghost Town in the Sky) is no more, and the property has now been put up for sale for anyone interested. Unfortunately, after a number of failed attempts over the past decade that has seen the park sit closed more than open over the past decade, I don’t have a lot of confidence that anyone else will be able to come in and save it.
(6/3/16) According to a new post made on June 2nd from the Ghost Town Village Facebook page, "PRESS RELEASE: Ghost Town will not open this season. The property is in the process of being marketed for sale in whole or part. We are sorry for the delays in coming to this decision, but feel it is best for the future of the property."
While it is odd that the announcement has come from a FB page the park's official website still lists it as opening on June 1st. Did anyone out there try to visit on June 1st or 2nd? I did try to call the park on the phone number listed on the website (828-944-0488) and that phone number is now officially disconnected. So with that in mind, I think we can stick a fork in Ghost Town once again. It’s Done!
