2026 - DØNNERVIND / Multi Launch Water Coaster - (5/25/2026) Screamscape has found a sneak peek at full speed testing of the new Dønnerwind attraction at Freizeitpark Plohn (see below) and it looks incredible. Built by Mack Rides, this unique model blends a traditional water flume coaster with a high-tech magnetic launch system. Early footage shows the ride vehicles flying through a terrain-hugging forest layout, clearing near-miss waterfall elements before plunging into a final splashdown. Crews are currently working on finishing the heavy thematic elements before turning on the water effects. The launched water coaster experience is like nothing I’ve ever seen before, appearing completely different from Catapult Falls built by Intamin at SeaWorld San Antonio. From the look of things, I think the park is going to have a real winner on their hands here that a lot of parks are going to want to get their hands on as well. Well done Mack Rides!
(12/25/2025) Freizeitpark Plohn has announced the name of their new launched Mack Rides flume ride coming in 2026. The park has named it “DØNNERVIND” which translates into English as “Thunder Wind”, but I believe the more accurate translation might be Thunderstorm.
(1/19/2025) Amusement Today has posted a few more details about the new Mack Rides launched water coaster coming to Freizeitpark Plohn in 2026. According to the brief article, Mack Rides claims that the new attraction will use the same style boats that they already use on their existing Water Coaster designs. They only had to attach a “metal piece on the bottom of the boats”. “We push the boats a little out of the water, but not by much - and launch it with the force of a Blue Fire coaster.” This may be a small dig at Intamin’s launched flume system, the first opened as Catapult Falls at SeaWorld San Antonio last year. On Intamin’s system the boats are mostly pulled up out of the flume to run across a slightly submerged track to engage the magnetic launch system. We’ll have to wait and see how the Mack Rides version looks before casting any kind of final judgement.
(9/25/2024) Mack Rides has announced the world’s first Multi Launch Water attraction as a spin-off of Mack Rides popular water coaster attraction. The first one will be added to Freizeitpark Plohn in 2026, where it will feature two launch moments, several airtime hills, twisted track elements, along with two splash downs and a pair of “High Five” banked air-time hills just as the vehicles pass by each other leaving and returning to the station area.
Exciting news!
