icon_STOP2023 - Lego Discovery Center - Washington DC, Boston and Atlanta - (11/19/22) According to an update posted to Blooloop the first “Lego Discovery Center” in North America is still on track to open in Summer 2023 in the Washington DC area inside Virginia’s Springfield Town Center mall. Previously Screamscape had also reported that the existing “Legoland Discovery Center” in Boston would be upgraded into the new “Lego Discovery Center” concept, but the article also confirms that the Atlanta site will also be upgraded as well in the near future.

(8/18/22) I’ve mentioned how the newest version of the Legoland Discovery Centers in Europe and a new site in Washington DC will open with a new design concept and a new name as a LEGO Discovery Center. Now it seems that the current LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston location will be closing to undergo a transformation into a new LEGO Discovery Center concept as well.  According to the official website this will be a $12 million renovation project that will see the current attraction closed as of Sept. 6th, 2022 and reopen once again in Spring 2023.
The revised attraction will feature a new LEGO Space digital experience, a new Creative Club play zone, a new Mini World, a Duplo Park and a Hero Zone area featuring a laser maze and a climbing wall.

(6/26/22) I missed this before, but Merlin has teamed with PREIT to launch the first next-gen “Lego Discovery Centre” attraction in North America in 2023 at the Springfield Town Center mall in Washington DC. Beyond just a slight name change (the previous centers were called LEGOLAND Discovery Centers) the first Next-Gen site just opened in Brussels this month and feature a number of new interactive play experiences and different themed zones. The new DC area attraction is said to be home to “a new state-of-the-art Lego Space digital attraction” and be the 15th such attraction to open in North America.

A LEGOLAND Discovery Center is a small indoor LEGO themed parks experience that typically feature a flat ride or two, a fun interactive dark ride, a 4D Theater as well as several interactive areas where kids can play hands on with LEGOs for hours on end.

In 2023 there will be 15 North American locations:
Arizona (Phoenix)
Georgia (Atlanta)
California (Milpitas)
Illinois (Chicago)
Massachusetts (Boston - Renovated in 2023)
Michigan (Auburn Hills)
Missouri (Kansas City)
New Jersey (inside American Dream)
New York (Westchester)
Ohio (Columbus)
Texas (2 Sites - Dallas/Fort Worth & San Antonio)
Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)
Washington DC (Coming in 2023 to Springfield Town Center)
and
Canada (Toronto)

Click here for all the official information about the individual attractions, but be advised that their policy dictates that “Adults must be accompanied by a child to visit the LEGOLAND Discovery Center.” In other words, any adult who shows up to visit without a child, will not be permitted into the attraction.
